Introducing the RedEdge-P Green: Expanding the Power of the RedEdge-P Series

August 13, 2025

3 minutes read

Aerial multispectral imaging has already transformed the way we monitor crops, habitats, and environmental change. The RedEdge-P series has been at the forefront of this transformation by providing high-resolution, radiometrically calibrated imagery that rivals satellite data, but at a resolution fine enough to distinguish individual plants.

Now, the family is growing.

The RedEdge-P Green joins the lineup, offering new spectral capabilities for even more targeted environmental and agricultural analysis.

Together with the RedEdge-P Red and RedEdge-P Blue, this trio offers flexibility for capturing the invisible details that drive plant science, conservation, and resource management.

The RedEdge-P Green: Precision in Pigment and Water Analysis

The RedEdge-P Green is designed with a unique spectral configuration to enhance analysis of plant pigments, aquatic environments, and subtle physiological changes.

Key Bands:

  • Cyan (502 nm): Optimized for shallow-water mapping and aquatic vegetation monitoring.
  • Green (550 nm): Measures chlorophyll concentration for detailed plant health assessment.
  • Yellow (570 nm): Detects plant stress and early stages of leaf senescence.
  • Red (678 nm): Sensitive to biomass changes and vegetation vigor.
  • Near-Infrared (754 nm): Highlights plant cell structure and moisture content.

Ideal Applications:

  • Detailed carotene and anthocyanin analysis for phenotyping research.
  • Coastal and near-shore surveys including tidal zones, wetlands, and reefs.
  • Precision agriculture for early detection of stress and nutrient deficiency.
  • Biodiversity mapping for differentiating plant species in complex ecosystems.

Completing the RedEdge-P Family

With the addition of the Green, the RedEdge-P series now offers three specialized sensors, each with spectral bands tuned to different research and operational needs.

RedEdge-P Red

  • Bands focus on red and near-infrared wavelengths for NDVI, NDRE, and other vegetation indices.
  • Excellent for crop health monitoring, yield prediction, and stress detection.

RedEdge-P Blue

  • Includes the coastal blue band for shallow-water monitoring, sediment mapping, and aquatic vegetation analysis.
  • Supports reef health assessments and glacier/snow monitoring.

RedEdge-P Green

  • Adds enhanced pigment and shallow-water mapping capability.
  • Optimized for phenotyping, biodiversity research, and subtle stress detection.

Shared RedEdge-P Advantages

All three sensors share the powerful technology that makes the RedEdge-P line an industry leader:

  • Pan-sharpening for ultra-high spatial resolution down to 2 cm/pixel.
  • Double radiometric calibration for consistent results in changing light.
  • Synchronized multi-band capture with automatic geotagging for precise mapping.
  • Up to 3 images per second for efficient coverage of large areas.
  • Compatibility with most drone platforms, allowing seamless integration.

A Complete Multispectral Imaging Solution

By combining any two RedEdge-P sensors, researchers can capture up to ten narrow spectral bands in a single flight tailoring their configuration to the specific requirements of their study or operation.

The expanded RedEdge-P family offers exceptional flexibility and scientific precision, making it ideal for applications ranging from crop phenotyping and habitat restoration to coastal resource management and invasive species monitoring.

Advancing Science and Sustainability

The RedEdge-P Green is more than just a new sensor, it’s a precision tool designed to push the boundaries of environmental and agricultural monitoring.

Together with the RedEdge-P Red and Blue, it empowers users to see the world in greater detail, make decisions with greater confidence, and act with greater impact.
