Having a GNSS receiver, such as Reach RS2+ to work as a base for drone RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) connection without external network connections will enable you to have a stable and accurate reference point for your drone's position.
The RTK technique is used to achieve centimeter-level accuracy in the drone's position measurements. This is done by comparing the signals received from the GPS satellites by the drone's GNSS receiver with the signals received by a separate base station receiver. The base station receiver is typically placed at a known point on the ground, and its location is used as a reference point for the drone's position.
Having a base GNSS receiver that can work without external network connections, such as a base station receiver with a built-in data logger, allows the drone to use RTK even in areas where there is no network coverage. This ensures that the drone's position measurements are accurate and stable, even in remote locations.
1: Download Reachview 3 app and follow these instructions
2: Find and connect to the Emlid "Wi-Fi"
3: Connect your receiver and your phone to a regular wifi network (must be the same network). Then, input all the settings shown below from 1 to 12.
4: Turn on the Receivers hot spot - This disconnects it from the regular wifi network and turns it into a local wifi transmitter that you can connect your DJI RC to (this will not have an Internet connection). It is purely the radio connection to transfer the Receiver GPS corrections to the RC controller.
Please ensure the RC controller is not more than a few meters from the receiver to receive the corrections
Enter settings for the receiver afterhot spot is active and phone is connected directly. See below 13-26
5: Place your Reach on the tripod and provide it with a clear sky viewover your known point.
You will need the measured height for entering. Please refer to the above screen shot 8
*Important info: longitude must be entered in the Reachview app in East Longitudemost surveyors will provide Longitude in West Longitude.Ask surveyor for East Longitude. Click here to convert West longitude to East if required.
Lat and Long must be entered in decimal degrees in the Reachview 3 app. Click here to convert degrees minutes seconds to decimal degrees.
Having a GNSS receiver to work as a base for drone RTK connection without external network connections is essential for achieving accurate and stable position measurements in remote areas or where there is no cellular coverage.
