What you Get with the TrueView 540 LiDAR Payload

August 18, 2025

3 minutes read

The TrueView 540, developed by GeoCue in collaboration with CHC Navigation, represents a new generation of high-performance aerial LiDAR sensors tailored for unmanned platforms. Positioned at the top of GeoCue’s 500 series, this sensor redefines what professionals can expect from a mid-range system by delivering engineering-grade accuracy, long-range capability, and dense point cloud quality, all in a lightweight, flexible package.

Technology That Works Together

The TrueView 540 is a complete ecosystem of tightly integrated components, designed to eliminate the complexity of deploying high-grade LiDAR and streamline the path from field capture to final deliverables.

Laser Scanner
The TrueView 540 uses a CHCNAV single-beam laser scanner operating at a wavelength of 1535 nanometers. It offers a pulse repetition rate (PRR) of up to 500 kilohertz and supports up to eight returns per pulse. This combination ensures the system can collect dense and highly detailed point clouds, even through moderate vegetation.

Range Performance
With a usable range of 400 meters on targets with greater than 20 percent reflectivity, the TrueView 540 allows operators to fly at safe, efficient altitudes while still capturing high-quality returns. This extended range reduces the need for multiple flight lines and increases productivity, especially in large or inaccessible areas.

Precision and Accuracy
The system achieves a ranging precision of 5 millimeters and an accuracy of 15 millimeters, delivering point cloud data that supports survey-grade and engineering-grade applications. This level of reliability minimizes the need for repeat flights or extensive ground control, saving time and reducing cost.

GNSS/INS Navigation
The onboard CHC PPK navigation solution provides 10 to 20 millimeter positional accuracy, with orientation accuracy rated at 0.006 degrees for roll and pitch, and 0.019 degrees for heading. These specifications ensure consistent and accurate georeferencing across entire scan swaths, enabling precise modeling of ground surfaces, vertical structures, and complex terrain.

Camera Module
The integrated 45-megapixel full-frame global shutter camera captures high-resolution imagery to colorize the point cloud and produce photogrammetric products. The global shutter design eliminates motion blur, ensuring crisp image quality during flight, even at speed.

System Weight and Temperature Range
Weighing just 1.9 kilograms (2.15 kilograms with accessories), the TrueView 540 is compatible with a wide range of commercial UAVs. Its operating temperature range of -20 to 50 degrees Celsius supports year-round use in challenging field conditions.

While specifications alone don’t tell the whole story, each feature of the TrueView 540 is carefully chosen to strike a balance between capability and practicality.

The TrueView 540 uses a 500 kHz pulse repetition rate (PRR) to achieve high point density, ideal for capturing fine details and vertical structures. Lower PRRs reduce detail, while excessively high ones may add noise and unnecessary file size. With 5 mm precision and 15 mm absolute accuracy, the system supports accurate surface modeling and meets engineering-grade standards. Its navigation system offers 0.006° angular accuracy in roll and pitch, minimizing alignment errors across wide areas.

Software and Processing: LP360 Integration

The TrueView 540 is powered by LP360 Drone, GeoCue’s advanced processing software that integrates with the hardware to provide a streamlined post-processing workflow.

Included with the system are the following LP360 modules:

Strip Align: Automates flight line alignment and reduces banding. Essential for producing clean, survey-ready datasets without intensive manual adjustments.

Photo Module: Processes imagery from the onboard camera for point cloud colorization and orthophoto generation.

3D Accuracy Add-On: Offers tools to validate point cloud accuracy against ground control and assess system performance.

These tools are critical for professionals who must maintain strict accuracy standards while delivering results efficiently. By processing everything in one environment, users avoid the time loss and errors that can result from switching between multiple platforms.

What's in the Box

The TrueView 540 comes with all necessary components and accessories to support immediate deployment:

  • TrueView 540 LiDAR payload
  • GNSS antenna
  • Sensor hardcase for secure storage and transport
  • Concentric target for alignment and ground control
  • LP360 Drone software license with Strip Align, Photo, and 3D Accuracy modules
  • One year of hardware and software support
