ASIO X Brings Innovation to Cement Plant Inspections with Cutting-Edge Drone Technology

July 15, 2025

3 minutes read

Purpose-built to perform where traditional UAVs struggle, the ASIO X is redefining how sectors like energy, mining, and cement manage their most inaccessible assets. Unlike typical multirotor drones, the ASIO X features a coaxial propulsion system, state-of-the-art RADAR navigation, and Swiss precision engineering, a combination that makes it uniquely suited for challenging inspection tasks in dangerous environments.

Let’s explore the core benefits that make this inspection drone the tool of choice for leading industrial players around the globe.

Exceptional Stability in GPS-Denied, Dusty Environments

Traditional drones rely heavily on optical sensors for navigation, which quickly fail in dusty, dark, or low-texture environments like tunnels, silos, or chimneys. The ASIO X, however, uses an advanced RADAR-based navigation system that is unaffected by visual noise. Paired with Flybotix's proprietary stabilization algorithms, the drone can maintain perfect balance and control, even when flying blind.

One of the biggest barriers to indoor inspections has always been limited battery life. Many drones cap out at 6–8 minutes of flight, barely enough time to map an area or capture quality visuals. The ASIO X delivers up to 20 minutes of operational flight time, 2.5x longer than industry averages, thanks to its ultra-efficient dual-rotor system. This results in more thorough inspections, less pilot pressure, and fewer battery swaps.

Durability and Minimal Maintenance

Indoor industrial environments are often filled with abrasive dust, fluctuating temperatures, and physical obstructions that wreak havoc on drone hardware. Flybotix addressed this head-on with a rugged, minimalist design:

• Dust-resistant components

• Low-RPM, large-diameter propellers for minimal wear

• Swiss-made motors built for longevity in extreme conditions

Imaging in the Darkest Spaces

The ASIO X is equipped with a 4K camera and a powerful 40,000 lumen lighting system, enabling it to deliver clear visuals even in total darkness or dense particulate matter.

Operators can then make informed decisions with confidence, thanks to detailed footage of structural damage, corrosion, buildup and more.

One of the most important benefits of the ASIO X is its ability to keep people out of dangerous spaces. Whether it’s a chimney in a power plant, a tank in a chemical facility, or a cyclone tower in a cement plant, the ASIO X handles the inspection, no scaffolding, rope access, or confined space entry required.

Holcim’s Cement Cyclone Inspection

A recent mission with Holcim, a global leader in building materials, showcased the ASIO X's strengths in real-world conditions. Holcim tasked Flybotix with inspecting the interior of a cement cyclone, a notoriously dusty and dangerous environment where traditional inspections are risky and time-consuming. The goal was to navigate inside the cyclone under heavy dust conditions, operate for 20 minutes and inspect the walls for structural integrity and material buildup.

During the mission, the ASIO X maintained stable flight using RADAR technology, despite having zero visibility. It delivered high-resolution footage of the cyclone’s interior walls and completed the entire inspection in a single flight without needing a mid-mission battery swap. Most importantly, the ASIO X kept workers completely out of harm’s way, demonstrating its value as a safe and effective solution for industrial inspections in hazardous environments.

With regulations tightening and safety expectations rising across industries, the ASIO X represents a timely evolution in drone inspection technology.

From reducing downtime and maintenance costs to protecting human lives, Flybotix's ASIO X is empowering companies to inspect smarter, safer, and more efficiently.
