Frequently Asked Questions about the DJI Matrice 400

August 20, 2025

5 minutes read

The DJI Matrice 400 is rapidly becoming the new standard for enterprise drone operations, with powerful new features that make it ideal for critical missions in mining, utilities, and infrastructure inspection.

Looking to upgrade from the M350 or just exploring what the M400 can do?

Here are the most common questions - answered so you can hit the ground running with DJI’s most advanced enterprise drone yet.

How does the tethered flight system work?

The TB100C Tethered Battery enables continuous power from a ground source for long-duration operations. It’s ideal for surveillance, event security, or telecom testing. The drone automatically recognizes and adapts to tethered power input.

What is the IP rating of the Matrice 400?

The DJI Matrice 400 carries an IP55 rating, which means it is protected against limited dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction. This level of weather resistance ensures safe operation in rain, snow, coastal environments, and other challenging field conditions.

Can I Use TB60 or TB65 Batteries with the M400?

No, the Matrice 400 is not compatible with TB60 or TB65 batteries, as it introduces the new TB100 battery system. This updated power ecosystem brings several significant advantages. Unlike the dual-battery configuration of the M300 and M350, the M400 can operate on a single TB100 battery, with full support for hot-swapping. The accompanying BS100 Charging Station offers intelligent charging features, including active cooling of batteries after flights to extend their lifespan. It also serves multiple functions, powering USB-C devices, RC Plus controllers, and functioning as a mobile workstation hub.

Battery performance is easier to monitor thanks to integrated analytics, which log battery cycles and health directly within the DJI Pilot 2 app. Charging times are efficient, with Fast Mode (using a 220V input) completing in approximately 45 minutes, while Silent Mode takes about 110 minutes.

Does the Matrice 400 Support Hot-Swapping?

Yes. The TB100 battery is hot-swappable. An internal capacitor keeps key systems powered for up to 45 seconds, allowing you to swap batteries without powering down or losing your mission state.

What is the transmission range of the Matrice 400?

Thanks to DJI’s O4 Enterprise Enhanced Transmission System, the M400 is more capable than ever, offering a range of up to 40 kilometers, a powerful 10-antenna array, and support for sub-2GHz frequencies to ensure strong performance in high-interference environments. It also features dual cellular failover with the DJI Cellular Dongle 2, further enhancing communication reliability.

These upgrades make the M400 an ideal platform for BVLOS operations or missions in high-RF areas where dependable connectivity is essential.

How many payloads can the M400 carry?

The Matrice 400 can support up to 7 payloads simultaneously, with a maximum payload capacity of 6 kg.

Payload Mounting Options:

• Single downward gimbal: up to 1.4 kg

• Dual downward gimbals: up to 950 g each

Third downward gimbal:

• 3 kg via quick-release

• 6 kg via screw-lock

• 4x E-Port V2 + 1x 120W power port

This modularity makes the M400 DJI’s most flexible payload platform yet.

Are my existing payloads and accessories compatible?

Yes, the DJI Matrice 400 (M400) is mostly compatible with existing payloads and accessories, as it retains support for DJI SkyPort V3. This means many current payloads can be carried over, including the Zenmuse H30T, H30, L2, P1, S1, and V1. It also supports a range of accessories such as the DJI Manifold 3, DJI Cellular Dongle 2, DJI D-RTK 3 and D-RTK 2, DJI E-Port V2, DJI SkyPort V3 kits, and the DJI X-Port. However, it's important to note that some mounting hardware has changed, and certain accessories may require adapter kits or firmware updates. Always verify compatibility before deployment.

Is the obstacle avoidance system better than the M350?

Absolutely. The DJI Matrice 400 (M400) features one of DJI’s most advanced obstacle avoidance systems to date. Its sensor suite includes omnidirectional binocular vision, downward binocular vision, horizontal and upward LiDAR, downward 3D infrared, and a six-direction mmWave radar, enabling detailed situational awareness.

Newly integrated technologies include omnidirectional LiDAR combined with mmWave radar, allowing the M400 to detect steel objects as small as 12 mm, this makes it ideal for inspecting powerlines or metallic infrastructure. Real-time visual data from all sensors is available directly within the DJI Pilot 2 app, supporting safe, precise navigation during tight-space inspections, low-light operations, and missions over complex terrain.

How Long Can the Matrice 400 Fly?

Flight times vary based on payload weight, but the M400 outpaces many platforms in endurance.

Flight Time Examples:

• 59 min with P1, L2, or H30T

• 53 min with H30T + V1

• 50 min with H30T + S1

• 44 min with 3 kg payload

• 31 min with 6 kg payload

What About Warranty and Support?

When you purchase your Matrice 400 through Measur, you’ll get your choice of:

• 1 year of DJI Care Enterprise Plus or

• DJI’s Extended Warranty, free.

This includes accidental damage protection, hardware fault coverage, and direct support from DJI, providing peace of mind from day one.

Does the Matrice 400 support encrypted transmission?
